Bifrost
Files across the room, not around the world.
A folder on your computer, a code on your phone’s screen — scan it, and the files cross the local network between them. Computer to phone, phone to computer, one device to another.
Download
Version 0.1.0Apple hasn’t notarised this app, so on first launch macOS will say it can’t verify it. Open it from System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. Everything runs on your own machine, and nothing phones home.
What it does
- — Share a folder from your computer, then open it from any phone or laptop on the same network — in a browser, with nothing to install.
- — Send files the other way, phone to computer, streamed straight to disk so their size is no object.
- — Pass a file from one device to another when two screens meet on the same page; the copy in the middle is deleted the moment it arrives.
- — Draw its own QR code, so a phone joins by pointing its camera — with no outside service anywhere in the path.
What it won’t do
- — Reach across the internet. Bifrost only bridges machines on the same local network — that is the whole of it.
- — Keep a copy of anything. The bridge stands while you need it, and nothing rests on a server, because there is no server.
